Bonne annee!

Ah, the first day of another quarter. A day, however, on which I did not have to walk to school. my friend Becca showed up early for an amazing change, and we found parking pretty quickly, then headed to French together. school isn't half so lonely when you're with a friend. it's actually kind of fun.

"Hey Becca. How is 6:30 AM treating you?"

we found our classroom and walked in to La Vie En Rose played on the accordian - traditional French to "get us in the mood." our teacher is crazy, in a pretty fun way. I think she spoke more French than English in the class. Most of what she said was "repete, repete" - repeat, repeat. she spent half an hour calling roll, getting all our names and nicknames right. mostly we just learned greetings and stuff. and Bonne annee, happy new year! I'm actually really looking forward to this class.

English on the other hand.....my English teacher scares me. seriously. she is a redhead, towards the bottom of 14 kids, rather loud (naturally), swears rather more than is called for, and really doesn't care if she gets our names right or if we have a problem. Honestly, she reminds me of some morbid cross between Buggs Bunny and the Joker.......like unpleasantness with ADD. And I'm not exactly what you could call clear about homework. I'm really not looking forward to this class.

maybe it will get better as the quarter moves forward.

I guess what bugs me most is that my English teacher (whose name is actually Victoria, curiously) really seems most concerned with us getting all the little nit-picky things right. we spent most of today on MLA formatting, and at the end she asked us why it was so important that we got it right. it boiled down to: because we're getting graded on it.

how pathetic is it to learn something just so you can get graded on it? I wish I had someone who cared about what we were writing, not just how it was formatted and if all the right words in the title were capitalized. Did you even read the title???

well, I want a Professor Keating, and I'm not going to get one. I knew that before, so I don't know why I'm disappointed.

anyway, that's plenty about school. I guess I should cut this short to start on some homework.

Au revoir! A demain! (see you tomorrow)

  1. oh yeah I remembered what I forgot to put in my post. have any of you guys been watching the Superstars of Dance? Ireland deserves to win I think - the group and soloist were amazing.

but the India duet deserved WAY better than they got. those girls were really good. I was noticing how all the really sensual dances seemed to be placing highest...hmmm.....

of course Ireland will win though. Michael Flatly is hosting it. this whole thing is rigged.

there. done with my rant. now it's your turn to comment...

  2. lol. yay rants!

and MLA IS important . . . . . IF your going into something that will actually need it . . . . lol.

well i'm looking forward to my own english class, but it's going to be hard. it's no more fun writing, its all researching. which means cracking down on the MLA rules and other random things. it doens't help that i don't have the book yet, lol.

but what else are you going to do with your time?

  3. Yeah, MLA can be important for the sake of having conformity, but I don't like being told it's important "because you'll be graded on it." The right stuff is being taught, but for the wrong reasons.
    anyway.....

lol, what time? Well I'm still doing Hindi, or rather, I'm starting Hindi again, hard core so I'll actually learn it and know a fair bit for next time I go to India. and I'm just starting a missions class called Perspectives at a church near me (check out their website, www.perspectives.org); this class looks totally amazing and probably something every Christian should take at some point in their life.
and then you know, working out, running errands, piano, reading, worship team (maybe soon...maybe), youth group, trying to have a social life.
so like I said - what time?

it's fine. I'm totally happy right now with what I'm doing. I hope I can keep this balance going.

what English class are you taking? it sounds boring.....(hahahaha)

  4. lol you may be right. I'll probably just read my book in the cornor while she talks. actualy, i really did do that with my math teacher. she was sooooooo boring.

lol wow, excuse me. i didn't realize how much you have! you are a social busy bee. but i still think that having social life is overrated. why go out when all your friends are at home??? i ask you. LOL.

but i have to agree with you, being taught stuff for no reason other then to be tested on it IS really bad. oh well. what can you do? make the best of it.

  5. oh jacob. the point is to have friends who do NOT live in your computer.

i wish i could watch superstars of dance. what channel is it on?

  6. NBC, channel 5. you should be able to watch it.

is anyone recording it? I only saw half of the first night.

on NBC's website you can watch a few clips I think.

last night was ADORABLE. the Irish duet was a married couple and they were so cute! they were really good too. and the American hip-hop team was aMAZing - and I don't even like hip-hop. they got like four 10's from the judges.

ok I will stop rambling now. but really, it's worth watching now and then.

  7. yay!! I'm glad someone else is watching it. I turned it on Sunday, but I ended up watching the recording the next day. I know, if the Irish win it everyone is totally going to say that Michael Flatley rigged it.

yeah, Katie and I were shocked about that Indian duet. It was awesome, I totally didn't suspect a six on that one. And then the india solo was kinda . . . boring. I was surprised it got a pretty good score.

I know, all the ballroom style dances are getting the highest score. Which, I guess we could have figured would happen.

The Irish Dance is cool, but I was really disappointed, they're totally copying Lord of the Dance . . . you would think they could come up with something knew. Even the solo was music from Lord of the Dance.

  8. We watch it too!!!! I think that if Ireland wins, it will look kinda of like a set up. and they copied lord of the dance.

  10. Last night was REALLY good. But I would love to see the second half from Sunday sometime, if that's cool. I missed the Indian solo but I saw that it got a good score.
