walking past the couter into my grandparents' kitchen this morning to see about some breakfast, I did a Jack Sparrow-like double take and spun around. something had grabbed my attention from the corner of my eye. a largeish roll of bubble wrap was sitting pathetically by itself, bubbly side in, as if trying to hide and look inconspicuous. but I knew better. I knew better because an end was sticking out where the roll part had rolled away, and two crisp rows of bubbled yet unpopped caught my trained eye.
like the experienced popper I am, I looked around silently and noticed only my mother in disguise of a nurse, hard at work to make my sick computer healthy and internet-savvy again. no threat there. slowly I turned my head to the other side: no one there. as far as I knew, everyone else was away at work, except the two bird busily scavenging their food dishes - both locked in their cages.
convinced at last that no one would hinder my escapade, I cautiously poked one finger out and jabbed at the corner bubble. it let out a disappointing and pathetic fizzle. I didn't even bother glancing around; no one would have heard such a poor display of bubble wrap-popping. Disappointed, I resumed my breakfast searching, only to discover a distinct shortage of milk in the fridge. I mean, enough for a steamed hot chocolate, but would I be the one to empty the milk carton in another's house? never! this was the beginning of a long and nearly fruitless search throughout the house, for I knew there must be another, either frozen or in the bar fridge. but of course the bar fridge has been moved, and where to only my grandparents could say.
well, them and my mom as it turned out. and there to reward my efforts was not only a gallon of milk, but also a can of gingerale! *sigh* my favorite.
so....how do you work the coffee machine?
cuz if we leave, then we just might make a difference.
and if we leave, then we just might be okay.
and I don't think it would hurt to get away...
I'm leaving for Hawaii early Tuesday morning, but will have internet access for the nine (sigh) days I'll be gone. and my cell phone too of course. really, it won't be much different than if I were here - I'll actually probably be online a lot more. other than snorkeling and reading and watching movies and eating ice cream, there won't be much esle to do. which I'm very much looking forward to. :D
guess where I got to get yesterday? oh come on, I said guess! no guessed? ok then, I'll tell you. I got to go to Goodwill!
where I got: many pairs of very cute socks, two hats (in Camp Hope Hat style, but different colors), and a Hawaii-ish light summery dress.
and then a music store near where my mom was having here meeting, where I found Jedi Rocks with all the Ewok lyrics and translation (yay!).
and then back to Goodwill with my dad, who I talked rather skilfully into buying the Princess Bride for only two dollars. YAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so so so so so happy!!!!!!! it was really funny though.
"Have you seen this movie before?"
"Yes Dad, twice. it's very good. all my friends like it too."
"*scanning the back* 1987??"
"yeah...."
"you're sure this is the one you saw?"
(just in case all the pictures on the front didn't give it away....)
"yes, I'm quite sure."
"well, we'll have to see how much it is."
"ok...."
*at the register*
"so, should I be getting my wallet out?"
"well, I think I could probably pick it up, if you really want it."
*nodds vigorously*

April 18, 2008
my day....
....yesterday was very interesting to say the least. at least to me it was; it might have been boring to someone else. but it’s coming to my head in writer’s style so I figure I might as well get it out, or who knows how long it’ll be stuck in there…
every Wednesday morning I make breakfast for me and my mom – like real breakfast, not just cereal or whatever. today I made eggs benedict, only with sausage instead of ham…which made it messy because the sausage was ground up, not in patties. but it tasted terrific! I love hollandaise sauce. tomorrow morning I will polish it off in a breakfast wrap. we need eggs though. it was very humorous: running back and forth between English muffins, poached eggs, sausage, and hollandaise sauce, and trying to focus on my mom reading me LotR and news at the same time. you know that feeling when you realize someone just asked you a question, but you weren’t really paying attention? yeah…
jumped around randomly yelling “the Eagles are coming, the Eagles are coming!” which made me think of Paul Revere and the British.
read some Shel Silverstein which mom got from the library: Don’t Bump the Glump, and danced around with a print-out of Jabberwocky saying obscure things about mome raths. finally brought my math upstairs after geography and tidied my room up. finally realized why my copy of The Queen of Attolia has a picture of a right hand on it – duh. I should’ve gotten that two days ago. I’m not quite firing on all four cylinders this week…
fretted (and sweated) over math for about an hour; I like geometry just fine, but I don’t know that I’ll ever understand trig. it’s just a big mystery when you’re using letters and proportions and sides all together – too much like algebra. but after that I got to work on some Hindi exercises (as if my brain wasn’t already fried haha), which made me feel better. I actually got most of a sentence translated from the Hindi book I bought in India, “The DaVinci Code, a Quest for Answers” by Josh McDowell. something about how many copies sold in the first something-or-other, and how many languages it was translated into. I don’t know, there’s some verb form I haven’t gotten to yet that was confusing me.
random thoughts about things I needed to do during the day kept coming to me, so I made a list of all the places to go when I was out. then I got my stuff together and cleaned up my room, which had become a mess again. :P grilled cheese sandwich for lunch? why not! between trying not to burn that and doing my chores at the same time, I had a very scrambled lunch.
after lunch I left for work, list and everything. yesterday I worked from 1-5, and it was one of those weird shifts where it’s terribly slow for an hour (which seems like three hours), and then twenty people come in all at once and you’re busier than you can handle. but as usual, it was fun. I’m sitting there cutting up lettuce in the back and thinking…”in every root in every tree, there is a different green…” and then comes the fun part with the salad spinner – I discovered that ‘to salad-spin’ is actually a verb. which made me think of Benny and Joon with “salad shooTER!!!!!!” I also learned how to use the orange-juicing machine. if you’re coming to visit me but don’t want a smoothie, get the orange juice. it’s the best orange juice I’ve ever tasted in my whole life. and there’s nothing added at all – it’s just orange juice, fresh-squeezed. due to indecisiveness for the second day in a row, I ended up making more orange juice for my shift drink.
so I got off at 5, only I didn’t because my replacement didn’t show up till 5:30. wah. :( which was actually ok because I got overtime. but then I finally clock out, split the tips with Shannon, and I’m getting ready to make my shift drink when Craig shows up. Craig is one of the leaders at youth group, and he works out at fitness zone, so he said he’d drop into my work sometime and say hi. we talked for like 15 minutes, which was really cool. then I realized that it was like 5:50 and I needed to go…..and then my boss showed up and I had to talk to her. blah blah blah….time to go…….ahhh!!!!! the worst part about my work is that it’s nearly impossible to turn left out of the parking lot onto the highway. I sat there for five minutes with all the blood draining out of my leg to the clutch waiting for a gap, and finally got a tiny little one and managed to peel out very effectively, scattering everything (except the orange juice) that wasn’t bolted down in the car. but if I don’t turn left, then I have to go all the way around to get to the library. it’s really bad planning and they need a light.
anyway, I made it to the library at last and discovered that my dinky little library has no good books on tape. so now I have to figure out a title and put it on hold from somewhere else. *sigh* and they don’t have Jumper yet either. rats. but I did find The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in book form for fifty cents, and bought it since I got more than that in tips! basically they took the movie and – not dramatized it, but the other way around. they literaturized it. and yes stupid computer, that is so a word! I got a library card too. it may come as a great shock to you to learn that not only do I not have a library card, but that the last two I’ve owned have expired on me. the explanation is this – I’ve always used my mom’s card, and never actually needed my own. now that I’m driving and going to the library by myself though, I thought it would be a good idea to get one. so I got one from the mean new branch manager. okay, she may not be mean, but she’s not Marty and Marty left big shoes to fill when she retired. I mean, at the very least they could find someone with a name other than Susan. what a librarian name…..she just seems like the kind of person who is always whispering, and would shush people for speaking any louder than her. but I could be wrong I suppose.
after I got my card and Susan went over ALL the information I already knew about cards and branches and hours and fines in her little schpiel, I finally got out of there and got home as quickly as I could, Switchfoot blaring. luckily my parents weren’t mad that it was almost 7:00, but of course I had called them earlier……anyway, mom had dinner ready and I ate so much because I was really really hungry! (smoothie samples at work will only tide you over so long…) put on the chicken carcass to boil from our chicken last week, so I can make soup on Friday. after dinner I put my stuff away and got changed, and then started on the recipe I’ve decided to use the leftover cream from the sleepover in – Fudgy Chocolate Ganache Brownies. and yes, they’re as sinful as they sound. I got that in the oven and called Anna while my parents watched Jeopardy, painfully aware that I should be practicing piano instead.
“Hello?”
“Hi, you sound tired.”
“Can you call me back when I finish my chemistry experiment?” (this, btw, is currently her life. it’s either chem or driver’s ed or orchestra. it answers every question.)
“Um, why don’t you call me back when you’re done, considering I don’t know when you’ll finish.”
“Oh yeah, ok. but if I don’t call by 8:30 then I probably won’t have time to call at all…”
“Alright, we can talk Friday.” (everyone make mental note, Kacy isn’t available on Thursdays. ever. pretty much.)
“okay, bye.”
“bye.”
*look around vacantly* *glance falls on fountain needing to be fixed for nearly a year* *inspiration and ambition hit*
so I fixed my fountain and it now runs again. like, water actually comes out instead of never making it through the clogged-up filter. but I have WAY too many rocks in the base. you can’t see all the pretty ones cuz there’s too many. I’ll have to fix that. eventually my dad came and helped, because I couldn’t get all the crap out with my non-existent finger nail. so while he did that I filled out my work schedule for the next three months with my mom’s help. and took the brownies out of the oven. the bummer is that I haven’t even used the cream yet because the brownies have to cool completely before I put the ganache on. *sigh* *licks lips* yum yum…I love ganache!
8:50 – Anna calls back. my mom answers, then hands the phone to me. ‘I think it’s Anna. I can’t hear her.’
“Hi.”
“Hi.”
“My phone hates you.”
“I know.”
(we begin most conversations this way. despite the fact that our parents don’t like us using the long distance calling card minutes, we do it anyways because the only alternative is my cell phone, which gets [count ‘em] ZERO bars at my house. so really, all our phones hate each other. on the landline, we have to almost shout to hear each other sometimes. you wouldn’t think it would be so hard to find a quiet place in a big house with only two other people in it….)
“Wow, I didn’t expect you to call so late.”
“I know.”
we carry on with a very intelligent conversation about checking the library for dates and going to the calendar to check out books. I think it’s time for bed.
my parents are watching some Ancient Greece things that my dad wants me to see. never mind that I’ve learned more about Ancient Greece than I care to. oh well, it was pretty interesting. I spent the whole time it was on pulling the chicken off the bones for my soup. soup-making is probably one of the best things I’ve learned from my dad, which he learned from his dad, which he learned from his grandpa……I love it and it’s the best stuff ever. mine will most certainly have dumplings. can’t beat chicken-barley soup with dumplings. plus we have all those leftover herbs from the sleepover cooking to use in the broth. mmmm…. ;)
at last it’s bed time!! this is starting to become my favorite part of the day. round up the cats and get ready for bed. and then…
…I crash.

"don't say I didn't warn you"
so, like Anna, I've now become an advocate for The Thief. read it. and don't be fooled by the slow beginning. the end is fast enough (and awesome enough) to make you head spin. it all balances out, and then you can't stop thinking about it. each time you realize something new that the twist reveals. and then you want to re-read it so badly because you're sure there's still stuff you missed.
things like this are addicting. we need to start a Bookaholics Anonymous.
but that's not the real point of this post.
the real point of this post actually has no point. I came here to tell you that I may not be on much for the next week or two, because my computer is in computer hospital unable to do anything internet-related, so I am currently using my parents' when they are not using it. which is pretty rare. But I know that once I get my own back and it's all fixeded up, I'll never complain about dial-up again! (for the record, scratch that out, I'm sure I will complain about it again). but the reason there's no point to telling you this, is because I'm not hardly on as it is. which I'm just trying to remedy now, but my computer is sick. so please pray that Tirinwe will get better soon and then you will hear from me like things used to be. :P
beyond that, I suppose it's time I officially announced that my family's going to Hawaii on the 29th. I know you all know it because I said it elsewhere, but just to avoid getting in trouble in case you forgot, I can point out that it's on my blog. we'll be gone until the 9th. but the best part is, my computer ought to be fixed by then ("ought" with an "o") and there will be high-speed internet where we are staying. for 10 WHOLE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!! and we're hardly doing anything except snorkeling and looking at the world's largest banyan tree. and reading a LOT. so I'll be on there probably more than I am right now. anyway, I'll keep you all updated on our activities once we're there. I'm mostly looking forward to the sun.
but not looking forward to getting back only one week before my recital, and having no piano while we're there.
in other news, lots of people have been coming to look at our house. please pray that it sells (only of course, if it's God's will [duh]); we all really want to move. well, most all of us with the 'really' part. good news is that I may be able to keep my job once we move, which I'm very excited about. and start teaching piano. or possibly find work at an Indian restaurant - that would be pretty sweet I think.
so yeah, I'll be around when I'm able. life is normal right now, not overly busy but don't let that give you the idea that I actually have time. :)
love you all.

"who calls so loud?"
don't you hate it when you see those movies with the really inspiring quotes, and all of a sudden once you take it back to the library you can't remember any of them?
and did you ever notice how the Netflix and library dvds ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS skip?
but on the other hand, The Freedom Writers is an amazing good movie and you should watch it. some language and lots of violence, but watch it with your parents because it is totally worth it. good acting, based on a true story, and although the score sucks it goes well with the movie so it's altogether a good movie. :P I know that didn't really make any sense.
there's something really strange, and magical, and frightening, all at the same time, the first time you get into a car and drive somewhere by yourself. yes - I passed my drive test. I am now a Washington State licensed driver!!!!! my test was so interesting. but that would make this post even longer than normal and I don't want it to get too out of hand. I'll make that a seperate post in a couple of days. let's just say that I still can hardly drive anywhere; my parents are naturally protective. I don't want to say over-protective, because I'm sure it's normal. it's just annoying. but I'm sure that's normal too. at least I can drive to work and youth group. :P
I found this awesome little kids book in a thriftstore the other day called The Bookstore Mouse. and reading it is the closest I've come to serious immaturity by myself in a long time. you know, when everyone's just staring at you as you're laughing hysterically over a book 1/2 inch thick. It's all about Cervantes, this mouse who lives behind the dictionaries and encyclopedias in a bookstore where Milo the cat can't get him. and he eats paper - words to be more precise, esp. the words from a cookbook that fell from an upper shelf awhile back. he just scrapes the words off and mixes them up. then he looks for SHARP WORDS to throw at the cat. he's sure that if he folds the paper right with the word "remark," he can make a pointed remark. and "zymurgy" because it's the last word in his dictionary, and he knows it's important to always get in the last word. and I'm serious I almost bought the book. especially since my mom wasn't there. hmm....library.....??
oh and speaking of books: do you know how much Target charges for One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish? $8.10!!!!! I mean, there's hardly eight pages in the book for crying out loud!! I was quite upset about that.
so I meandered around while my mom looked for baby shower presents until I found two books about Mr. Darcy. then I just settled down on the diamond-patterned floor and tried to ignore the two teens giving me really strange looks.
and speaking of strange looks, I did two things today to attract them. #1 - things at work were really slow, so while we were cleaning stuff and doing dishes Maggie and I talked about school, and life, etc. after I told her what I'm doing in the way of school this year, I asked her about her school (she's homeschooled too). she gave me the run-down, and added that she's trying to read lots of classics too. I got that giggly excitement as I thought of Dickens, Stevenson, Cervantes, Wilde, Tolkien, etc......and all the others....you know who I mean, and jumped all over her. I'm afraid i may have frightened her actually. as soon as she mentioned A Tale of Two Cities I started going on and on about Dickens. until I noticed the look. you know the look. it's a mix of incredulity that you can actually read and enjoy reading something more than ten years old, and a glazed-over look like day-old cinnamon rolls. that's when you know to stop, if you know what's good for you. better that your coworkers think you half-way normal rather than completely weird, or your job goes from a blast to no fun at all because no one wants to talk to you. I got the look in driver's ed when the two girls next to me discovered that I was actually reading Nicholas Nickleby for fun and not because it was for school or I was being forced to.
#2 - There was this categoy on Jeopoardy tonight with answers and questions from Shakespeare plays. "A is for this character.....blah blah something about Romeo and Juliet I didn't quite catch." immediately I started cracking up and couldn't stop for a few minutes, just thinking "What ho Apothecary!" and "who calls so loud?" from Nicholas Nickleby. and of course, apothecary was the answer. once my mom realized what I was laughing about she stopped giving me the look, but it was pretty fun while it lasted. then I went on to quote movie lines as they popped into my head (which was happening even more frequently than usual tonight) until she said we could watch one. which is when we put in The Freedom Writers.
Conspiracy Theory has so many great one-liners, even though it's not a very good movie and I probably wouldn't watch it again. at least, I'd have to be in the mood for a really corny movie with not much good acting outside of Mel Gibson's brilliance. but the one-liners just might push me over.
work today was soooo awesome. I love my job so much! and I got my first paycheck on Saturday too!!!! it's awesome, because I only worked nine hours for my first check, and this week I have eight hours, and next week another eight, so that's near double my last one. and it's hardly impacting my schedule - it's like a time warp or something. I love the environment, I get payed to do something so fun, I'm learning more every day, sampling more every day.....and now I get to drive myself to work!!!! yay!!!!!!!!!
so today I got to sample like five smoothies, and changed my mind on my free one from Raspberry Rush to Go Goji, which i have to say is the best smoothie I've EVER had. Raspberry Rush will have to wait until tomorro. today was my first day of actual work, which means on-the-job training with someone other than my boss. basically, I'm still always learning, but my boss wasn't there so it felt more like work and less like training. and it was super-slow, so few dishes, but even with the slowness we got big tips, and we always divy up the tips evenly at the end of each shift. so that was pretty cool. and I made my first wrap all by myself, and didn't even mess it up! (the only other wrap I made [which was with help from my boss] the lid on the mayonnaise thing came off and the mayonnaise went ALL OVER the wrap hahaha. luckily I was making it for her as just training, so it wasn't as bad as it could've been). anyway, tomorrow I have a five-hour shift: my longest yet. it all goes pretty quickly though.
so, because of all that, I should probably be getting to bed now.
good night. sleep tight. *wink wink* Anna's birthday is in 18 days.............don't forget! *hinthint* and Lindy's is in 9 days.............don't forget that either! *hinthint*
and did you ever notice how the Netflix and library dvds ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS skip?
but on the other hand, The Freedom Writers is an amazing good movie and you should watch it. some language and lots of violence, but watch it with your parents because it is totally worth it. good acting, based on a true story, and although the score sucks it goes well with the movie so it's altogether a good movie.
