Thoughts breaking my dreams/like a million shattered shards of hope

One year ago today I woke up at 7:00 at my second cousin's house in Portland, and got ready to go to the church for check-in, and eventually to leave on a trip half-way around the world.

I remember it perfectly. Whenever people would ask me if I was excited or nervous, I would say "yes." I think that day was more nervous. I'd never even been out of the country except Canada (which I guess doesn't count), and here I was going to India! My cousins offered us stuff for breakfast; I don't even remember what, but I couldn't eat anything. After a while it was time to leave for the church, so we got my 49-pound suitcase and my all-purpose carry-on bag, and left.

We arrived at the church in just a few minutes. I began to feel a little more excited, if not less nervous. I got my bag checked, and it was exactly one pound below the maximum weight! What a God thing! (ok, so it was one pound over on the way back, but it wasn't a problem, ha-ha.) We all lined our bags up and were assigned numbers to keep track of them. I was #1. Well, #1 ended up getting misplaced in Singapore, which is the reason my carry-on bag was all-purpose! I had everything I needed for the three days I was suitcaseless, until they got it back to me (thank God!). It was really funny too – in Mumbai David (team member) walked up to me and was like "did I ever tell you how nice that outfit looks on you K_? You know, I think you should just wear it for a few more days maybe. It's not looking good K_." We went clothes shopping later that day, but my outfits had to be altered to fit me, and that wasn't done until the day my suitcase came, so it didn't help much. I had everything else I needed though.

We hopped on a bus. It was sprinkling, I remember that. Funny, we didn't have to complain about rain for the next three weeks! (And of course when we flew in it was fifteen degrees in Portland!) We drove to PDX, checked our bags, Nancy and I almost missed the flight, and then we were on our way! Apparently I was the random person they pick every now and then to not get a particular stamp on the boarding pass, and then you have to go through the major security check like a terrorist or something until your travel agent comes and rescues you. I guess our whole team of 25+ people were threatening to stand up, because the plane can't take off with anyone standing. That sure made us feel special! (and stupid but that's beside the point.)

PDX to LAX, no problem. 3 hour layover, get really bad California airport food, walk around shopping with no money (really smart, in fact, almost brilliant), go to Starbucks and get something with the money we don't have to wash down the really bad food we didn’t want to eat, then wander around til you find the gate where the rest of your team is. Then lay on the super-hard ground because you have no idea what the next flight will be like, but you're half excited and half terrified.

LAX to Singapore was 18 hours there, and 15 on the return flight. Excitement comes only from the girlish fantasy that there are individual TV screens on the back of each seat, and that you can pick your own movie to start at any time without paying. This does not take into account that next to no sleep is involved. And that while they take care of you, sleeping at a 120˚ angle for two hours off and on is not exactly a consummation devoutly to be wished.

Anyway, enough complaining, I do plenty of that. Singapore airport is probably the best place in the world as far as airport shopping goes (BTW, that's where the India 2007 team is right now, they'll probably go from Singapore to Mumbai [Bombay] in about two hours). But as far as airport food is concerned, they're not much better than LA. I think we stopped at this little Italian deli and I got strawberries and crème and a muffin for lunch. Because I was feeling like someone tipped my stomach upside-down and shook it, and that was the only thing that looked even mildly palatable. (It was actually better on the return trip, because I'd only been in the air 5 hours, not 18, and we ate at a Subway that was actually pretty good). Then we checked into our hotel (out of the two that are in the airport) and got about 2 more hours of sleep and a bath before starting the shopping. I didn't buy anything, because I couldn't find a spoon for my collection, and everything else was either too expensive or not worth buying. And it's incredibly hard to get them to give you American change for Singapore dollars. I did get some coins for my collection though.

We just walked around for awhile, and kept bumping into other members of the team also walking around, and finally we all met for a tour of the city, which was absolutely AMAZING!!! If Singapore wasn't so humid, and if their laws weren't so strict, I could live there. It's really beautiful.

We got back to the airport and then bummed around until our flight to Mumbai, which I'll tell more about tomorrow.

'Night all. Hope you enjoy my memoirs from a year ago!

potc plot and lots more..don't be daunted by size!

Ok, long post because I put the revised plot for my PotC thingy in it. I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts, comments, questions, etc. Thanks! (If you still haven't seen PotC II, I will keep my opinions to myself, but you should see it before reading this.)

*NOTE: This isn't meant to be a sequel or anything. I didn't write it to be PotC III, because as it is it wouldn't make any sense being that, and I didn't want to spend lots of time on an elaborate plot that would be totally different and probably not half as good as Disney's. I just took the same characters and put them in a new plot. except for Jack, most of the characters are in the same position as at the end of potc 2. Enjoy!

Plot
Barbossa's ghost is out to get Capt. Jack Sparrow, and he has the makings of his own fleet: the Interceptor II (stolen from His Majesty's Royal Fleet), a new ship: the Intrepid, and a pact with the Flying Dutchman. He offers Davy Jones Jack Sparrow in return for 5 men from the Flying Dutchman's crew. He receives the 5 men, including Wyvern and Bootstrap Bill Turner. Barbossa is marked with the black spot until he delivers Jack, to ensure that his promise will be made good. Barbossa also agrees to return Davy Jones' heart to him.Jack can't run forever: he must face his fears in the shape of Barbossa's ghost. Meanwhile Will's marriage is again interrupted by Jack, who comes to demand Will's help in return for freeing his father (Bootstrap Bill). When Norrington comes to Gov. Swann and says he would like to help by dissuading Will from helping Jack, Swann accepts. Then Elizabeth discovers what her father has done and runs away to save Will from Norrington.Jack wants to vanquish Barbossa's ghost and kill Davy Jones, and when Will helps only under the condition that Jack return's the Interceptor II (which he steals from Barbossa), Jack agrees, keeping in his mind that he'll barter the ship back to Becket in return for Jones' heart. (Jack will then have killed Barbossa and Davy Jones, and he will be free). He would also like the Pearl back if possible. Will wants to free his father and marry Elizabeth, along with returning the Interceptor II to the Navy. He tells Jack that he'll help him in return for his father, but only if Jack returns the Interceptor II.Norrington wants to kill Will and Jack. He is now commander of the Dauntless and has naval authority from Becket to do so.Barbossa wants to kill Jack. If possible, he also wants to double-cross Davy Jones and become the "Immortal Captain of the Flying Dutchman." ("The Immortal Captain Barbossa has such a nice ring to it, don't you think?") He has his monkey.Elizabeth wants to marry Will, but first she has to save him from Norrington. She also wants to help Will in any way possible.Gov. Swann wants to keep Elizabeth out of harm, and to dissuade Will from helping Jack.Becket wants to kill Will and Jack. Becket commissions Norrington to kill Captain Jack Sparrow and capture Will Turner dead or alive, but devises his own scheme when Jack shows up at his front door with the Interceptor II looking for the heart of Davy Jones. He decides to capture Jack on his way out, but unfortunately for Becket Jack sends a decoy: Will, dressed as Jack. Will escapes with the heart of Davy Jones, but without a ship. He lies and tells Jack that he lost the heart, for he intends to trade it to Barbossa in return for his father. (Here Jack decides to stay in Port Royal in the hopes of getting the heart.) He finds out that Elizabeth has run away to find Will, who has left to find Barbossa, and decides to visit Tia Dalma. He re-commandeers the Interceptor II, and on the way to visit her, he meets Norrington. They fight, neither one dies, but Jack finds out (somehow) that Will actually got the heart and lied to him. Meanwhile, Elizabeth is searching for Will and/or Norrington, and joins Norrington's crew in search for Will (and Jack). deserts when Norrington and Jack cross paths, and Jack takes Elizabeth as a hostage, to persuade Will to give him the heart of Davy Jones. Meanwhile, Will has been in Tortuga, and finally finds a crew to join, which he deserts when he finds Barbossa. Barbossa wants to kill Jones, but he won't break his pact with Jones (by giving Will his father, even in return for the heart) until he's killed Jack and has nothing to fear from Jones, and he asks Will to help him find Jack. Will refuses, so Barbossa takes him as prisoner, but Will won't reveal where the heart is. (He gave it to Elizabeth in Port Royal for safekeeping.) When Jack shows up on the Black Pearl (after visiting Tia Dalma) to kill Barbossa, he brings Elizabeth along as a hostage, because he learned from Norrington that Will had lied. Jack doesn't know that Elizabeth has the heart. Norrington failed to take Jack so he was decommissioned, but he still wants to kill Will and Jack. Will takes the heart back from Elizabeth, and tells Jack he'll give him the heart if Jack will let Elizabeth go and abide by the former terms (i.e. Interceptor II is already returned, but Jack must free Will's father). Jack agrees. Will won't surrender the heart until he has his father back, but Jack needs the heart in order to barter for the father. He explains this and Will trusts him (never trust a pirate).Tia Dalma has given Jack Barbossa's heart, which Jack must stab in order to kill Barbossa. Nobody knows this yet except Jack and Tia Dalma. She gave him Barbossa's heart and raised the Black Pearl from the depths (again) in return for Jack ridding the world of Davy Jones (who was once in love with her; she was the woman who didn't love him back, and the reason he carved out his heart). Jack tells Barbossa that he'll give him Davy Jones' heart in return for Bootstrap, but he gives him his own (Barbossa's) heart instead. They fight, because Barbossa is supposed to bring Jack to Davy Jones. Jack lets Barbossa win (but not obviously). Barbossa brings Jack to the Flying Dutchman, intending to bring Jones' heart to him but to stab it before his eyes. He will then kill Jack, who is bound. Jack informs Will of the "change of hearts," and they form a plan. Will will sneak onto the Flying Dutchman, and will set Jack free in time for him to stab Jones' heart before Jones kills him. However, Norrington shows up at the last minute with the Dauntless determined to kill the two men who ruined his life, Will and Jack, and he has the royal Navy behind him. (Norrington has made a deal with Becket: He gets his commission back in return for bringing the heart of Davy Jones back to Becket.) He meets Will rowing over to the Dutchman and they fight in the rowboat. The boat drifts toward the Dutchman, where Will manages to throw Norrington into the water and jump on board, where he begins to hack his way through the sailors to the cabin where Jack is. Norrington soon follows. Will enters just as Barbossa is plunging a knife into his own heart, though he believes it to be Jones'. He dies quickly. Will makes a rush to unbind Jack, but Davy Jones quickly realizes what has happened, and throws Will to the floor, while making a leap for Jack, whom he believes has his real heart. Norrington enters at this point, and grabs the heart from Will, who was about to stab it. He and Will fight, then Jones leaves Jack and all four of them end up fighting. (Norrington wants the heart so he won't lose his commission again, Jack wants to kill Jones, Will wants to kill Jones, Jones wants to not be killed. Norrington also wants to kill Will and Jack and escape with the heart.) The heart changes hands many times, but finally ends up flying through the air, and it lands on the table. Will and Jack both plunge a knife into it at the same time, while Norrington and Jones look on in horror. Jones dies. Norrington runs, but trips and falls unconscious to the deck. Jack becomes captain of the Dutchman, the Pearl, and the Intrepid (though he does return the Interceptor II again), and they maroon Norrington on the cannibal island. The last shot of the film (after the credits) is of Norrington running across the beach with the cannibals close behind. Will and Elizabeth get married.

I wanted to tie loose ends up because I wan't planning to write a sequel plot for this. Of course I can, if there's any interest, and untie a few of the strings, but I think I wrapped everything up on this. I hope it doesn't seem too "happily ever after" for potc, but that's what I came up with. Thoughts?

Ok, so I squeaked by with an A for my Mid-Term Chem test, but all three of us in my class ended up with a B in the next module test. Too much to remember! I mean, like who cares what the chemical formula and electrical charge for acetate is? Oh well, I got the concepts down fairly well, even if I couldn't memorize everything. Now we have practically no homework this week, and no co-op this week either, so I have like nothing to do!

For those of you who didn't know, our family is looking for a new church home currently. We'd appreciate it a lot if you could keep us in your prayers in that area.

What else? Hmmm....the chest is coming along. I posted about that earlier. We started My Best Friend's Wedding last night, but only got 1/2 hour into it before I had to go to bed. Looks good so far though. I loooooved First Knight.

Oh yes! Our Indian dinner thingy for my dad's family! It was really really super-great! The food was pretty good. We made shrimp biryani and tandoori chicken, and my aunt brought naan, and lots of people brought other things that were pretty good. We also found an Indian spice store, which will be good for future (i.e. my birthday party!!!)

Speaking of which, I turn 15 in 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would say I can't wait to get my permit, but I can't string up the nerve to call the place. Tomorrow, I hope.

Namarie, melloni nin!

Diary of a Sea Chest

Hi all.
This is a project my dad and I are working on for co-op's Valentine's Day Party. Everyone makes a box (something that holds valentines), and then we vote on the top three and stuff. this year we're making the chest of Davy Jones, and this is the first journal entry I made about it. This is a few weeks old, but I'll post again hopefully very soon after we next work on it (hopefully Saturday).

1.13.07
We started work on the chest today. It was not easy going, and Dad and I were both thoroughly exhausted by the time we finished. The log I had worked so hard to roll from the back turned out to be unusable, as it had a large dip in it and most of the center was rotted, but I didn't mind too much—my main goal was to prove to myself that I could move the thing, which I did. Dad brought a new log from the back in about five minutes' time, which was the only regret I had: that I wasn't able to carry the log, but had to roll it.

The first thing was to mark the shape of the chest on one end of the log. It is about 10 inches deep, 12-13 inches wide and the same distance high from the bottom to the top of the lid. Although I want to do much of the work on this, I let Dad handle the chainsaw, which he used to cut out the shape. We used the natural arc of the log for the top arch shape of the lid. Once the shape was cut out, we used scraper thingymabobber to scrape the bark and part of the outer wood (which was rotting) off. Dad told me that hemlock rots from the bottom of the tree upwards, and because of that we wanted a piece from higher up in the tree. Apparently my original piece was from the bottom, which was one reason it wouldn't work—it was too rotten. Our piece is still pretty good.

Once we had the bark scraped off, we tried a number of methods to separate the lid from the main body of the chest. Dad said that he didn't want to use the chainsaw because it would be too hard to guide, and would go off course, so we sat and stared and thought for awhile. We tried a small handsaw for a few seconds only, but discarded it for two reasons: firstly because it was hardly long enough and of course would take hours to use, and secondly because Dad pointed out to me that it got wider at the top than the bottom by probably ¼ inch at least. This would allow us to get into the wood up to the top of the saw, but then the saw would become wedged in the log. We sat and stared some more. I knew he would come up with the first idea (the first one worth trying anyway) since he knew his tools much better than I did. I was right. The first tool he wanted to try was some sort of saw, but found he didn't have a long enough attachment blade to saw across the depth of the lid. Soon he remembered his Makita saw, and after some searching found just the right attachment for it. We'd planned for him to get it started and then let me take over (under supervision of course), but found it to be harder than expected. Our biggest problem was keeping the log from jumping all over the place, and we had to adjust it several times before finally putting it end-up in the floor, with Dad sawing downwards and me literally standing on the end to keep it down! I said that it felt something like standing on the jack-hammer we used to pound our garage floor down; I never felt such a strange vibrating sensation in my legs!

In about ½ hour we had separated the lid from the chest, and now we were faced with the spot "where the sidewalk ends." We didn't have a plan for hollowing the chest/lid out, so we sat and stared some more. Of course this didn't last very long, because my dad has probably about a hundred and fifty-seven tools in the garage, so he soon pulled some down. We marked 1 ¼ inches in from the outer part of the chest/lid to cut, allowing the extra ¼ inch so that we would still have a fairly thick wall, with no danger of cutting through it. I can't even name all of the tools we used to begin with, but we used a round electric saw thingy to mark the edges and begin with the general depth, and then my brilliant father got a drill and drilled out several holes about 3 inches deep. Then we both used his grandpa's old woodworking tools (which he left to my dad) and a hammer to knock out the wood in between the holes—he on the chest, I on the lid.

This was the slowest part of today's work, and probably will be of the whole chest. The depth of the chest is now good, and that of the lid is nearly enough, but we have to work on getting it all to a common depth, and then getting it all smooth. Unfortunately, Dad's sander won't fit inside the chest/lid, but he says his belt sander at work might, so I think he's going to take it to work this week and give it a shot. Our main asset is that the wood is still fairly wet, so it was easier to work with, and more pliable. We left it open to dry though, so it won't always be so easy. Our main hope is that it won't crack as it dries. Just before we ended we decided to find a couple of hinges and see how well the lid fit the chest. Dad found the hinges, and sent me looking through his bottomless pit (*coughsscrewboxcoughs*) for 12 of the same screws. A nearly impossible feat, ha-ha. I swear that man must have 500 different types of nails and screw jumbled together in no visible order in one flimsy cardboard box: leftovers from building the house, along with about two-hundred and seventy-eight washers! We somehow managed to find them together, and got it screwed on. It fits fairly well, a little rough, but Dad said that he can probably sand that down to a better fit too.

By this time we'd been at work probably about 5 hours, and decided to call it a day and resume again when we could. I'll probably do some more work on the lid this week, since I can do that by myself, and then we'll work on it together next Saturday if we get time. The half of the garage that Dad's Jeep usually occupies is so completely covered in tools, logs and wood shavings that you can't even see the floor! We told Mom not to look.

at long last

i'm posting. sort of, because there isn't much to say that you don't already know if you've read my comments on everyone else's blogs! *rolls eyes* now I feell dumb.

So...Chemistry is keeping me busy, with Civics and Medieval World too. but if you want to know anything about Manga Carta just ask me...haha. I had my mid-term test this week, and ended up squeaking by with an A, which I was super-excited about. I did rather poorly on the first half of it, because two of the chapters gave me a lot of trouble, but made up for it in the second half, so I was happy with it.

I went to Thrive last night; my Bible Study group. It was really awesome. I always love it. It's a very mature group of Christian teens, boys and girls, and we actually talk about things and pray together! Always awesome. Except that I had to babysit so I was late, but it didn't really matter.

We're getting Girl Scout cookies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mint thins and caramel delights! mmmmm.......

Oh yes. I have a new heart-throb. If you are male, skip down to the next part, ;) Jamie Bamber from Horatio Hornblower. Blond hair. Blue eyes. Irish. And his favorite book is the Divine Comedy. And he doesn't smoke. And he majored in modern languages, and speaks French and Italien. And his nickname is Bambini. And he's super-cute. And I'm in love with him. *blushes*

Ahem. Yes. My birthday is in 10 days!!!!!!! I 10 short/long days I'll be 15!!!!!!!! Legally old enough to start drivers ed, get a permit.....heaven. ahhhh.

I think that's everything. Oh wait one more thing. For co-op we have a Valentine's Day party thing every year, and we all make a "box" (term applies loosely; something that holds valentines) for our valentines, and this year I'm making the chest of Davy Jones! Truly though, dad and I are making it. Out of a stump. And I'm keeping a journal of it, which I'll post the first entry for very soon.

Ladida!

Hello world!
just sitting here doing my project for Civics.
well, I'm supposed to be doing my project for Civics...
just taking a little break, ha-ha, what I really need.

Did anyone watch the game last night? Want to know something really freaky? I had a dream last night that the Seahawks were in the SuperBowl! It was 3rd quarter and we were winning. Hmm...two years in a row?

My parents are at a board meeting thingy...and I going to get my homework done and then call Eowyn and MJ. Seriously. I mean it this time. If I don't call you Eowyn, please chastise me, because I'm really serious this time. It's been too long.

Ah, girls' campout thing. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to do it? I'll look at my calendar for dates, but I have to wait til Mom gets home since she has it on her 'puter. I think we should do it in August, because Camp Hope is in June/July (which I think pretty much all of us are going to, including me!), so we probably don't want it right before or after that. What do ya'll think?

Oh, I think this is my first post here in beta!
